Our adaptive approach improves community resilience and connection, through the localisation of resources and employment opportunities.
The system also collects data to develop community education and enable government reporting. Once the waste streams are sorted within the Recyclapod they are individually processed and used to make entirely new products for local community use, thus reducing reliance on raw materials and external supply chains.
As result of their geographic isolation, outback and island residents have limited access to resource management services, infrastructure and economic opportunity.
The Norfolk Island Project has demonstrated that circular systems can not only address these challenges but provide many additional benefits, to both community and government.
Norf’k Ailen (Norfolk Island) - 2022 to 2025
Before 2023, Norfolk Island was experiencing serious waste management issues: open-air incineration, ocean dumping, and airfreighting waste to landfill in Australia at great cost.
The Norfolk Island Project demonstrated that circular systems can address these challenges while delivering environmental, social and economic benefits for the local community.
In early 2022, we were engaged by Norfolk Island Regional Council to design, build and operate a circular waste management solution. In August 2023, we commissioned The Norfolk Wave Recycling Centre – integrating our Recyclapod™ and Central Processing Facility technologies under one roof.
Within 18 months, we reached the 2030 National Waste Policy recycling target of 80% – demonstrating that remote communities can achieve resource recovery rates that match or exceed mainland Australia.

This comes a result of organic waste diverted from landfill, which is also creating compost for local farms and gardens.
+ LOCAL EMPLOYMENT
On average 11 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) positions were created at the Norfolk Wave Recycling Centre over the 2 year period.

By December 2023 operating costs were significantly less than the previous export waste to landfill costs.

Revolve Your World is a passionate and principles-driven organisation with a strong desire to address one of the world's greatest challenges, by helping one of the most remote communities on the planet. Leveraging learnings from previous projects and collaborating with other stakeholders in waste management and resource recovery, Revolve Your World has developed a bespoke, fully-tailored system to suit Norfolk Island's unique circumstances.
By embracing the resource potential of numerous waste types, Norfolk Island Regional Council is now avoiding substantial logistics and landfill costs from reduced exports, while benefiting from a variety of new products that have the potential to offset resource shortages in the local economy. In the space of just 5 months, the operation has already achieved a 74% landfill diversion rate for household & commercial waste.
A monumental achievement! While there are opportunities to push this even further, the strong community support for Revolve Your World's process makes this truly achievable. Norfolk Island Regional Council, 2022 - 2025
The Norfolk Island project is seriously inspiring. This incredible collaboration, with the support of the Norfolk Island Regional Council, has achieved mindboggling results in waste diversion from landfill in its first months of operations. Visiting in October 2023 with a 70% landfill diversion, now up to 75%, RYW has the systems, the know how and the capability to put the circular economy in action.
It was a seriously inspirational tour of an old facility with some new kit, a bunch of passionate professionals and a tale that very much gives hope for our ability to turn our waste problems around.
